Termination Letter Template And Tips


An employee termination is usually done for one of three reasons:

1) Redundancy. 2) Gross Mis-Conduct. 3) Poor Performance.

Employers must use proper employment termination letters, so here is an example of an employee termination letter template and tips.

Mr/Mrs/Ms ____________,

Further to our meeting of _______ (date), I confirm that your employment with __________ (Company Name) is terminated with effect from _______(date). As stated at our meeting on _______ (date), the reason for termination your employment is as follows:

Reason 1 – e.g. Summary of Redundancy Reasons.
Reason 2 – Summary of Gross Misconduct.
Reason 3 – Summary Poor Performance.

Note: It is very necessary for the employer to remind the employee, of what steps had been taken, and when, by the company for the employee to enable him rectifying the situation.

State individual requirements such as return of company car, equipment, submission of expense claims etc and any other administrative details.

Clearly state actual leaving date, and details of notice period, holiday pay, general pay and pension or other benefits, plus redundancy settlement if appropriate.

Also clearly state how the employee can appeal to the decision – the employee’s rights, the appeal process and appeal time frames.
