While writing a Personal Recommendation Letter, remember the following points.

While writing an Official recommendation letter, start with (Dear Dr. Joyner, Dear Ms. etc.). If you are writing a general letter, start with “To Whom it May Concern”.

In the first paragraph of the letter, explain about how you know the person you are recommending.

Provide specific and detailed information about the person you are recommending in the second paragraph, also explain why they are qualified regarding the post and what he/she can contribute. If necessary use more than one paragraph to provide the details.

Provide the person’s skill-level details as to how the candidate is matching the position.

Be brief in writing why you are recommending the person. Use words in this particular part of a personal recommendation letter such as “highly recommended” or similar to “recommend without reservation”

Sign off by an offer that you are always open in providing more information. Always include your phone number with an email address in the return address section of your letter.
