Write this type of letter when you are requesting a scholarship. You will likely need to modify this letter sample at least somewhat so that it most closely matches what you want to communicate. Include in your letter any pertinent details.

I am writing to Catskill University to request the R.L. Woods Scholarship for the upcoming academic year. I have thoroughly reviewed the requirements and believe I do meet all of them. I have also completed all of the paperwork for the scholarship and have enclosed that with this letter. Also enclosed are my references. I think you will agree when you review my paperwork that I would be an excellent candidate for the scholarship, and I would be most honored to receive it.
